Gaming Column: Nintendo Direct 2.13.19

This is a bit late but better later than never, right?

This gaming post discusses the Nintendo Direct that premiered a bit over a week ago, including news such as major games that were announced, a list of everything that was announced, and some more information.

The Direct immediately started off with a teaser for the upcoming game Super Mario Maker 2 for the Nintendo Switch, that’s announced to release in June. There’s a lot to expect with the new title, and one new big feature that was seen in the trailer was steep slopes, which could be a huge game-changer considering they weren’t present in the previous entry.

After that teaser and Yoshiaki Koziumi’s intro, more games were announced such as Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order. There was also a sneak peek to an upcoming update for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which showcased a quick glimpse at Joker’s (from Persona 5) character model and even a new mode in the works.

After the update announcement, there were showcases of more updates to games and more announcements and teasers of new games coming to the Nintendo Switch. There was a features display of Yoshi’s Crafted World and a thorough introduction to the new Fire Emblem: Three Houses that had been under wraps for a while, which displayed a brief glimpse of the story, game mechanics, etc.

Game announcements that I personally found to be interesting were Mortal Kombat 11 (Shaggy needs to be included in the character roster) and Assassin’s Creed III Remastered (though I’m not that surprised especially considering Ubisoft’s partnership with Nintendo). I’m glad the first chapter of Deltarune was added as well.

The Direct closed off with a trailer for a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening which looks heavily exciting and certainly something to look forward to.
