People Column: Interview with Redd
Welcome to the third edition of the People Column of Rebel News Media, where interviews with RF members are published weekly.
This week’s interview is with Minecraft Division Director Redd!
RNM: So let me start out with a basic question. When did you first join the RF, and what all have you achieved in your career here?
Redd: Initially I started following RPF (RF’s predecessor) back in 2010. I’ve always been an advocate of a multi-federation gaming organization, and I was pretty much behind any attempt to create one. I helped work on the original versions of RF back in 2017 and 2018, and since then I’ve been following the group, spending most of my time on an advisory board. However more recently, a few RF members and I developed RF’s Minecraft Division, and I’ve taken on the role of leader. We’re currently in the midst of our first long-term campaign, and things are going rather well.
RNM: Yes, a lot of people are excited about the Minecraft Division, including me. What made you decide to start the Minecraft Division?
Redd: Minecraft is a game that I’ve been playing for years now, and I was able to see it’s potential as one of RF’s divisions. Commando and I ran a MC server for RF about two years ago and we’ve been fantasizing over having a dedicated division ever since. I think that it’s a fun game and RF members can really develop a sense of unity while playing it.
RNM: Yeah definitely. So for people who don’t know about the Minecraft Division, can you talk a little bit about it and what goes on for people that might be interested in joining?
Redd: Sure. In the MC Division we’ve introduced a new idea to RF, the campaign. Campaigns are essentially long term missions where the division inhabits a single server for an extended period of time. During this time we can set a number of goals: build a powerful nation, invade and take over the server, or simply spread our name. Campaigns are especially nice because members are able to get on and play whenever they want. They don’t have to show up at a specific time for an event, they can just hop on with their friends whenever and fight the good fight. During campaigns we do typically hold regular “events” that RF is used to. These events usually consist of building contests, PvP tournaments, minigame days, or whatever else division members would like to do. A new feature that’s currently in the works is having “teams” where RF members can be assigned to a specific team based off of their skills, and work with their squad on assigned tasks. But I wont spoil too much. We’ve had a lot of fun so far, and I can only see things getting better from here.
RNM: Same here, that definitely sounds like a lot of fun and I can’t wait for those upcoming events. Do you think the addition of new divisions will help bring in more people, and help RF thrive even more?
Redd: Absolutely. The more options that we provide, the more people will want to stick around. Having a diversity of games will definitely benefit us.
RNM: So you said you’re going to start hosting events on Minecraft. We’ve already had one so far for the opening of the Minecraft Division, can we look forward to more in the near future?
Redd: Yes, we may have more events scheduled as soon as tonight. We’ll likely see them no later than the end of this week.
RNM: Okay nice, one last question. What do you have against giant towers in the town?
Redd: Those giant towers just scream “noob”, not good for attracting new recruits! Plus they block the view of our lovely town.
RNM: I see, I see. So if there anything else you would like to add?
Redd: I think that just about covers it. Nothing more to add, thanks.
RNM: That’s fine, thank you for letting me interview you today! Have a good rest of your day!
That’s all for the interview of Redd! Special thanks to Kiki for interviewing him.
